Hi all,
I took a snapshot of everything in
https://www.resiprocate.org/files/pub/reSIProcate/releases/
and posted it in IPFS[1] with the Content ID (CID):
Qmdbz2ESzaKa8CnSGh3Q4pZoFoEHpTEPZCPjEwKmLNo8Yz
It can be accessed with the IPFS gateway through a browser using this URL:
https://ipfs.io/ipfs/Qmdbz2ESzaKa8CnSGh3Q4pZoFoEHpTEPZCPjEwKmLNo8Yz
and if you use fuse on Linux to mount /ipfs, you can explore the files
like this:
ls /ipfs/Qmdbz2ESzaKa8CnSGh3Q4pZoFoEHpTEPZCPjEwKmLNo8Yz
ls /ipfs/Qmdbz2ESzaKa8CnSGh3Q4pZoFoEHpTEPZCPjEwKmLNo8Yz/releases
Users on any platform can install the IPFS Desktop and IPFS Browser
extensions to access the files in different ways.
IPFS CIDs are a bit like Git commit IDs. Each time we add another file
to the IPFS directory, there will be a new CID. Like Git, this should
also give us the ability to audit the files: every file in IPFS has its
own CID too, so we can ensure they don't get tampered with after a
release, well into the future.
There is no single way to confirm which CID is correct or trustworthy
for a project. To get us started, I've signed this email with my PGP
key. This is a good solution for small projects and evaluating IPFS.
If multiple people install the IPFS daemon and "pin" the CID, it will
ensure we all have copies and it is more resilient. We could also
install the IPFS daemon on the existing server but we don't get much
benefit from doing so unless multiple people are pinning it.
This can not only give us resilience against the previous issues we had
with hard disks, it can also help us establish some leadership for IPFS
in telecoms. For example, we could distribute country code lists and
other static data through IPFS and create tools around that. There are
many opportunities in this space.
Regards,
Daniel
