This no longer works -- the correct autotools procedure is:

cd ..../sip
echo yes | sh use-autotools.sh
sh autogen.sh
mkdir compile
cd compile
../configure [options]
make
DO NOT 'make install' YET. This is still being worked on. Bad things 
will happen. :-/
