I would recommend staring out by looking at one or both of the following depending on your needs:
1.   BasicCall.cxx under resip/dum/test - this test application implements 2 UA endpoints, one acts the UAC side and the other as the UAS.  This test application deals with SIP signalling only (no media).
2.   The testUA project under resip/recon/test - this test application uses the recon API layer which is built on top of the DUM API.  It uses the sipXtapi media library to implement a media (RTP) capable UserAgent that can perform both UAC and UAS roles.  For more info please see:  http://www.resiprocate.org/Recon_Overview and http://www.resiprocate.org/Using_testUA
