Re: [reSIProcate] WIKI Question....
I don't think there is a person yet who has come across that 'Need to
log in to edit pages' message and not been confused. Perhaps we
should all try to adhere to a policy that we don't leave hanging links
around. It should be a simple matter to add one or two sentences
saying something like, "Sorry there's not actually a page here, but if
I would have written one, it would have talked about the following.
If you are reading this and are knowledgable about this subject,
please feel free to add this information. In the meantime, check out
these programs in the test directory..."
So, the answer to your first question, John, is that those pages mean
that there is no Wiki page for that link yet.
In addition (or perhaps instead), we can have a heading on the main
Wiki page that warn people that they may receive those warnings, and
what they mean.
Or, even just put "(No content)" after the link.
And John, the stack is in a fairly early stage, and it's being written
by bunch of volunteers that like to spend their time monkeying with
code rather than writing documentation, especially documentation about
stuff they think is obvious because they are the ones that designed
the system. As such, it's mostly up to higher level users like you
(and me) to populate the Wiki with information useful to newbs. We're
even the right ones to do it because we're coming from a position of
complete ignorance, and will ask stupid questions that these other
guys already know the answer to, and wouldn't be able to imagine.
I don't use dum, but the way that I got started with the stack was by
taking a look at the test applications, and mimicking one that did
something fairly similar to what I wanted to do. When I ran into
problems, I asked the list, and usually got a reply within an hour, if
I got one at all. All the while, I tried to document the process I
went through, and add info to the wiki as I went along.
It may not be the most efficient system from the standpoint of a new
user, but it works, and it gives people like us a way to give back in
a meaningful way as well.
